Redesign: E-commerce

As a UX Design intern at Porsche Holding, I led the redesign of the Volkswagen e-commerce platform. This project aimed to modernize the outdated e-shop, streamline its structure, and integrate the Zubehörkonfigurator (accessory configurator) into the shopping experience. The new design serves as a scalable template for other Porsche Holding brands, including Porsche, Seat, Cupra, Skoda, Audi and others. The design iteration has now been completed, and the project is ready for development.

Problem

The existing Volkswagen e-shop lacked a clear structure and logical product organization. It featured 13 unsorted product categories, making it difficult for users to navigate. The website looked outdated, lacked usability, and had no cohesive information architecture. Additionally, the Zubehörkonfigurator, which allowed users to purchase car-related accessories, was a separate platform, adding complexity to the shopping journey. My task was to address these challenges while working within existing system constraints, maintaining a consistent design across brands, and delivering within a limited timeframe.

Challenges & Constrains

Research & analysis

The project had to be completed within 6-7 weeks, requiring careful prioritization of key features.

Information architecture

The existing system’s limitations (e.g., inability to display product variations under a single listing) influenced the design, but I proposed future improvements.

Outcome

The finalized design is now complete and ready for the development phase. The redesigned platform features improved navigation, seamless integration of the Zubehörkonfigurator, and an enhanced user experience. The project has been well received by stakeholders and is set to proceed into development, where it will provide a streamlined, scalable e-commerce solution for Volkswagen and other Porsche Holding brands.
